distilled mixed with tap

Question
I am starting a new 26 gallon aquarium.
my tap water is around 8.0 ph and 12 gh.
I would like to have S.A. Rams.
I don't want to become a mad scientist with water chemistry.
can I just mix some distilled water with tap water?
will this lower the ph and gh a bit, if so how much?
what ratio should I use.
will it provide stabillity?

thanks

Answer
Dear Mark,
You'll have to try out your own experiments with using distilled water to find the best ratio for your current ph level. I might try about 1 part distilled to 1 part tapwater for starters and I'm sure you'll have to do plenty of adjustment from this starting point. With the distilled water it should provide good stability and frequent water changes should further prevent flucuations.

Best of luck!
hope this helps,
Karen~
