pleco strange growth

I have had a pleco for several years now, in a 40 gal aquarium. It recently developed a cauliflower-like white growth on top of his head. Now it has turned red. Any ideas what it might be or how to treat it? THANKS!!

Hi Dave;

It could be a tumor or a bacterial infection from an injury or something. Keep his water very clean and use an antibiotic from your local fish store. That's all I can think of besides using Melafix to help soothe the area and help it heal. I hope he gets better...
