Can I use a fluval 405 for up to 100 gallons in a 70 gallon tank?

Of course you can. It shouldn't overpower your tank or anything. It's great to overfilter your water, all the more better for your fish, you just want to make sure the filter isn't producing a whirlpool affect! ;-)

But otherwise you should be fine.
