Question
Hi,
we have a 60 litre tank and our neon tetra keep dissapearing, they haven't been sucked into the filter because its too small. Where do they go? Are they being eaten by other fish?

We have 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 clown loach, 2 swordtails and a common plec along with other small tetras. we started off with 20 tetra, 4 penguin tetra, 7 ghost tetra and 9 neon tetra and now we have 5 neon, we have replaced the neons before but they keep going missing.

Help

Answer
Hi Sam,
This is going to have to take some investigative work on your part. The first thing I'd make sure of is that the neons aren't dying from poor water conditions such as ammonia being present in a recently setup/uncycled tank. Testing your water would be a good idea. The neons could be dying from poor water conditions and their small bodies would decompose so fast that they could "dissapear" in just a short while. Make sure the ammonia and nitrites are both ZERO and nitrates are 20 or less.
I'm not saying this is the case 100% but its just a guess.

The only other thing that could be happening of course is  other fish eating them. Neons make a very tempting snack for almost any fish..Especially if you get the young neons which are smaller than usual. Probably the best thing to do in this case is to go find the "Jumbo" neons are they are called which are simply much larger mature neons that stand a greater chance of -not- being eaten.

I really hope this helps!
Best of luck and let me know how it goes if you like!
Karen~
