What is it on the baby Platy?

Question
There is a problem that I just now noticed on the baby sunrise platys that I have. There were  about 10 and I now count 5, of these 5 all have a white spot on them all over actually, but here is the kicker the mom and dad don't neither does the Japanese Fighter fish nor does my ( I forget its name) bottom feeder, I suppose, he likes to hang on to the walls and on my bamboo and the gravel. There were to of these "bottom feeders" but one died and when I came home I dug him out last night. My water is cloudy almost 65% of the time a month and its real frustrating, I keep putting in a water clearer not for algae but for excess food particles that float in the water.

Answer
Hi Melissa,
Sounds like the baby fish were targeted first because they have the weakest immune systems compared to the older fish.

The cloudy water is a great concern. And the food particles is a dead-giveaway as to why the water is cloudy. I highly recommend to instead of putting in chemicals to clear the water but instead do a few partial water changes. Water changes are the most effective way to get rid of and maintain clear water. Cloudy water means there is an imbalance. No amount of chemicals or filtration can take the place of a water change. I would change around 1/3 a day. It will also help your baby fish grow and help their immune system.

You probably need to treat the tank with 'Quick Cure' or a similar white spot medication. Change the water down 1/2 everyday and redose the medication. Remove any carbon in your filter and gradually raise the temp of the water by turning your heater up slightly (if you have one.) Its very important to treat for as long as your fish has symptoms.

Good luck! Your fishies need treatment ASAP!
