Electric Blue Cichlid

Question
Hello Craig and thank you for taking the time to answer my question.  I have and electric yellow and an electric blue cichlid.  I've had them both for about 2.5 years, the electric blue slightly longer.  I have noticed that the electric blue (Tito) now has a large pink area on his lower lip.  It also has a very small amount of what looks like tissue (doesn't look much like scales) that is hanging off.  Today he seems to be spasming a bit.  Tito's still very interested in food, and when he isn't spasming, he seems normal. I noticed him lock jaws with the electric yellow about a week ago and the first time i saw the spot was about 3 days ago.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Sounds like your fish are scraping a bit, the damage on the Blue's lower jaw is from the 2 fish locking jaws.  The trauma from the damage might have turned into an infection that has spread into the fish's blood stream causing the spasms your talking about, that along with the stress of fighting is plenty enough to cause illness.  You might try changing around the aquarium decorations to break up Territories, this normally will stop fighting between fish since they will no longer have territories to fight over and they will spend time exploring the new setup looking for a location to call there own rather then fighting with other fish.
