Hi again,
sorry to pester you like this. Thanks to you Karen i can now raise my molly babies properly. If i go and ask questions like these to the fish dealer he doesnt know them. So can you please tell me whether i can add corydoras cat fish with my goldfish fry. Also i have been told by a couple of friends that concict cichlids are a bit easier than other cichlids. Is it so? if yes how?

Answer
Hello again, Srinivas! Nice to hear from you again!!

First of all I must say you are NOT pestering me! I am here to help out anybody who has a question about fishkeeping and I truly welcome anybody to ask me hundreds of questions until they have their problem solved. I am so very happy to help people like you Srinivas! I don't mind at all!

I am glad my advice about raising mollies will do some good for you. I know you will have much success!

Now about your question on adding Corydoras with goldfish fry....
Well, Since I don't know right off hand if Corydoras catfish can be kept with goldfish fry, I did a lot of research on the internet for a few hours. I couldn't find out any information unfortunantly no matter how hard I searched.
I have never tried such a thing myself, but the best advice I can give on the matter is trying it yourself. Wonderful Corydoras catfish aren't known for their fish-eating behaviors in fact, they never bother any fish at all. I am just not sure if they would eat the Goldfish fry. All I can say is to try it. Watch closely for a long time to see if the Corydoras are chasing and eating the fry which I highly doubt would happen but you never know. I am not sure what temperatures you are keeping your Goldfish fry at but if it is below 70 degrees F. or 21 degrees in celsius Corydoras don't do well in coldwater at all. They much prefer warmer water of about at least 75 degrees F. or 23 degrees in celsius reading. I'm sorry that these fish won't do well with Goldfish either. The best fish to go along with Goldfish is probably White cloud mountain minnows, plus other goldfish of course. But perhaps you could try adding Corydoras as i've said before, just don't keep the water too cold and make sure the Cories don't try to eat the fry.

If your friends are talking about Convict cichlids being easier than most other cichlids, they are right! Convicts are small, beautiful, cichlids but they are very, very, very, aggressive. That must be their only drawback, everything else about them seems almost like the perfect fish, but their aggressive level is far more than often the average fish can handle, Spawning pairs are the most aggressive, they will train a fish several times bigger than they are to stay in one corner of the tank and never leave that place. Another sometimes good thing about Convicts is they will spawn with almost little effort on the owners part. Often times people are overrun with Convicts because their pair would not stop spawning!!
None-the-less if you are interested in Convicts, get yourself a couple or more, in order to get a pair if you want one is to buy 6 small juvenile fish and grow them up together until they pair up themselves. You can tell which one is a female by a little patch of brown or reddish color on their bellies, males do not have this. Convicts are also very hardy, requiring no strict water conditions, stay pretty small around 4 inches or so, and do well on just about any food as long as there is variety. They are considered an very easy cichlid, especially for beginners.
As long as you have at least a 10-20 gallon tank, and keep the water quality good, Convicts are a great cichlid to have...Just please don't try adding a different fish species to their tank, they will almost certainly kill it!

I hope I was of some help again... I'm sorry I didn't know the answer to your first question, I tried my best though.
Remember as always, if you need anymore information or have anymore questions just email me again! So very to happy to help out all I can!

Wishing you...
Best of luck to you and all your fishkeeping challenges!!!

Have a wonderful day, take care.

Happy fishkeeping!
