Question
When I turn on the lights on my fish tank they dart away and then come back out in the open. A few minutes later they are staying in the same spot. I have 6 neon tetras. They don't swim together like before. They just hover. Is it my water condition? Thanks:)

Answer
This is a difficult questions to answer. How long have you had the fish? If they are new, that would be the issue, they are just scared and need time to adjust. If they have been in the tank for a while perhaps turn on the light in the room first and then the light in the tank to gradually adjust them to wake up. As for how they are swimming, something seems to be stressing them out. Have you done anything different to the tank or the surroundings? If so, that would be the culprit. If not, it is hard to say why they would randomly act this way. Do any of them have signs of a disease or parasite? Look closely at them and make sure they dont have any spots, bumps, torn fins, swollen bellies, unable to balance, or they dont eat. If they have any of these signs that the problem is a disease or parasite and needs to be treated. Feel free to get back to me with any more information you might have as the limited info is difficult to use for a clear answer. I hope this helps.
