white cotton like growth on rubber ornament

Question
Hi David,
Chris Robbins answered a question about strange white growth on 9/8/08 that may be what i have. he said "It looks like a slime-mold that is consuming decaying organic matter off the rock."
I bought a rock ornament that has fake rubbery-like anemone on it. the rock part of the ornament is fine but the anemone is growing tufts of white cotton-like stuff that comes off easily when pulled but gets caught in the filter tube. I have taken it out and cleaned it off manually a few times and it keeps coming back & fast! what is it & is it something the fish can get sick from? is bleaching the rubber the answer? or should i throw it out?
thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Marie:  Chris Robbins would be (as usual) correct.  It may also be an algae.  I do take my ornaments out and clean them in normal tap water.  Sometimes I will soak them in a bucket with algae fix in it too.  I would just clean the ornament and put it back in the tank.  Make sure your tanks surfaces are clean and the food is not building up on things... dave
