listless angel fish

Question
I have a 125 gal tank. I have danios, tetras and a couple barbs. I also have an angle fish that is approx 1/2 dollar in size. it has been in the tank for a few weeks without problems with the other fish. I added two smaller angelfish a couple of days ago as well as a couple live plants. now the fish seems listless and not interested in feeding. It has no other visible signs of illness. Is this likely due to the new angelfish or is it some other cause. Thank You

Answer
Hi Ron
With no other symptoms showing, it's kinda hard to say exactly what's going on.  It's possible the new angel fish are causing it.  I would keep an eye on them, especially at feeding time, see if the new ones are bullying the old one at all.  When it's not feeding time, watch them for awhile and see how they interact.  The 2 maybe ganging up on the one.  Also, try a different food and see if that encourages him to eat.  I'd go for some frozen/thawed out bloodworms.  All fish seem to love those.

And keep an eye out for any new symptoms that show up.  Watch for scratching/rubbing on objects, darting around the tank, any redness or sores, sunken belly, etc.

Also a good idea/investment, pick up a 10 gallon tank or larger but 10 minimum, and start quarantining all new fish for at least 2 weeks before adding them to your tank.  I unfortunately learned that lesson the hard way, and now I QT all new fish and automatically put them through a round of antibacterial and antiparasite meds.

Good luck and let me know if more symptoms show up.
