Question
I have a a 55gallon tank and it has been setup for about... 4months i think. Right now i have a breeding pair of jacks (male-7in female-6.5in), a rainbow shark(5inch), and a new member that was sold to me unidentified (7in). I have found out that he will grow to a foot and he is a Synodontis eupterus. My tank has  brown algae on it and it "comes back" even after i scrub it away. He was to clean that up a bit and bottom feed. But now i know that he is not what i was looking for. Is there something that my jd's will not kill yet will stay around the small side. I was looking at some of those snails that wont breed in freshwater or anything.
Thanks,
Matt

Answer
Sorry bud.....it looks like what you need is a good old fashion Hypostomus plecostomus....algae eater, sucker fish. They have a hardened outer shell (I'm not sure what it is) but they are very durable. They do a better job than snails. They are ugly as sin but they are the best cleaners. If you want you can look for a more attractive one (albino sailfin, rhino, royal, or something like that). The smaller variety of plecos do just as good of a job (rubber lip/bull headed pleco, gold nugget, ect.) but they only reach 6 inches and they are good candidates for a Jack Dempsey menu. I'd say go with a large plec.....snails will work but I personally don't care for them. A pleco will have that tank clean in a matter of days....a snail may take a few weeks.
