Hello Mr Pratim Das

could you please tell me why i have brown spots on the leaves of my anubias gracilis? it had 1 brown spot the day i bought it but now the leaves are almost totally covered.

i hava a 130L tank with drift wood that seems to be leaching a lot. i change the Purigen in the filter every second day. the temperaure is 27degC and the ph is around 6.8-7

i only have rummy nose tetras in the tank at the moment but i'm looking to buy angel fish and corydoras

thanks

Heb

Answer
Dear Hebbat Manthy,
Anubias is a slow growing plant and stores energy through its rhizomes and I read that sometimes when there's too much being stored the plant have a hard time utilizing this energy thus causing some leaves to turn yellow and have spots or something like that. From personal experience, Its usually caused by either too much lighting, excessive fertilization, or lack of fertilization. My anubias had the same spots ans stayed there for ages without the leaves melting or anything. From your picture it looks like its getting too much light.I don't think that algae growing on Anubias leaves is necessarily a sign of poor health. I don't think that the health of the plant plays much of a role in determining whether or not algae can attach. Thanks. Good Luck.
