I want to replace my filter with a better one but am aware that the bacteria in the old filter is key to a healthy tank. what is the best process to replace filters?

Hi Dave
Just use any of the filter media, like the filter pad or anything else you had in it, in the new filter.  If you're getting a larger filter, the old pad should probably fit in with the new one.  What kind of filter did you have, and what kind are you thinking of getting?
