Question
I know this is going to sound crazy, believe me I don't understand it either, but for some reason my fish are disappearing. August 5th I purchased 3 Sunset Wag Platies. I was told by the clerk at Petco that I had 2 females and 1 male. August 22nd I woke up and discovered that I only had 2 fish.(1male & 1female) I looked all around my tank, even checked my filter. No sign of a third fish. August 28th I realized that I was down to one fish (male) and there are still no signs of my other two fish. I don't have any other pets. The only child in my home was sleep when the first one disappeared and out of the home overnight when the second one disappeared. What is happening to my fish? Is it possible that the male platy actually ate the 2 females? If so shouldn't there be some sort of remains?
Anxious for your respond!!!

Answer
Hi Yolanda,
Haha, that does sound a bit crazy.  Platies are excellent jumpers so be sure to look very thoroughly around the tank.  They would be dried and shriveled up and wont look like platies.  Even if the fish did die, and the male fish started picking at them, the remains should still be there like you stated.  Have you checked under decorations? Inside the intake of the filters?  Or maybe they are stressed out and hiding along the bottom behind a peice of decoration?  Do you ever do any water changes?  If no water changes are done, nitrogen build up will occur and the fish will try to jump out of the water in search of a new place to live.  15%-20% water changes are recommended weekly.  Other than that, I'm not sure what happened to the fish, you have quite the unusual case there Yolanda.  Good luck trying to find the other fish, sorry I cant be of further help.
Let me know if you have any further questions
