Catfish?

I have had a tank for 8 months. I have goldfish and a channel cat but as you would probably guess my goldfish are slowly disappearing. I got a new tank for the goldfish and have the cat in a long 30 gallon. My ? is what other fish can I put with him? I know how big he gets and am willing to upgrade the tank when needed. But this is my first fish owning experience, so please keep that in mind. Having said that I love having the tanks so I am willing to work hard and do not give up easily. Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated. I have gotten a few books from the library & talked to a some aquarium stores but am just gettig confused. Thanks Amanda

Hi Amanda;

The channel cat will get so big there really isn't anything you can put with him that will survive. He will outgrow the 30 gallon soon too and need a 55, then a 100, and so on....

Cichlids and large fish like silver dollars and pacu will get along with him in a 100 gallon or larger, but they have to be big enough and grow fast enough to make it.

You might consider finding a new home for him at a local fish store.
