Question
Hi!

My betta fish, Niji ( japanese for 'Rainbow' ;D ) seems to have scars all over his scales ever since I've bought him ( about a year now and boy, is he constipated right now but I'm watching over his diet ), I thought I could remove those damages by simply caring for him ( Sadly, the store is very mean and only raised them to be sold and not for contests. Poor things. ) Is there any way to get rid of the 'beauty marks'? I'm not sure if anyone asked this question yet. And thanks in advance!! :)

Answer
Hello Mie,

Indian Almond leaves produce tannins and secretions which are very useful in promoting the healing of fins and scales. They are cheap and can be ordered online or bought at some fish stores.

Most come with directions as to their usage but usually I just place a whole leaf floating on the top in my 1.5 gallon tanks but if yours is smaller use half a leaf. Obviously make sure the betta can still get air.

Indian almond leaves also promote bubblenesting an give the fish some extra shelter.

Hope this helps!
