Betta feeding

Question
QUESTION: The only food my Betta will eat is the frozen bloodworms.
I have tried several types of betta food but he ignores all of it. Even tried not to feed for a day or two to see if he'd eat alternatives but he spits everything out but the b/w.
Can't imagine this is a health diet for him.
Any suggestions? He is healthy but I am afraid this won't last if he doesn't start eating more variety. Have had him about 3 months
Thanks!
Lori

ANSWER: Hi Lori,
Try fasting him for 3 days, and then try feeding him Betta Pellets.  If he can get use to another food, this would be great.  Bettas do not let themselves starve to death, but I think they do know when they can win...They are clever!  Daphnia is another food that they usually like.  Does he eat the pea?
If he refuses to eat after three days, then I guess I would give in.  I know we shouldn't, but when a betta refuses to eat, it's hard on us, it shouldn't be, but I haven't had the heart to starve them more than three days.  If this turns out to be the case, feed him small amounts of bloodworms three times a day.  Lets hope he does start to eat something else.

QUESTION: Hello Lynda,
Well the Betta won the battle! I did not feed for 3 days ( that was hard! ) and when I finally offered pellets or flakes, he refused and got his bloodworms in the end. I will look for the Daphnia. Is it a frozen or dried food? Have never tried peas but I used to feed them to the cichlids I had years ago. Will try it too.
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Lori,
I guess the little man is really spoiled, and I know how you feel about starving him, I can't do that either.  Three days is the max.  There is nothing you can do now, but feed him what he likes.  Try the pea, remember to remove the outer layer.  He may like it, lots of bettas like the pea, and it would be really good for him to have a pea once a week.
Daphnia is found frozen, or dry.  This would also be a good source of food for him if you can find it, and hopefully he would eat it.
Good luck, and have a nice day.
