Question
i have one beta in the tank with two more fish,  they have been together for a bout 6 months and no problems, then some type of Nat or fly has multiplied on the cover of the inside of the tank , i cant get rid of them although my home is not fly infested or dirty but the tank has attracted these pests and no w my beta has one blown out eye, can i fix this?

Answer
Hi Robin;

I've never been able to effectively get rid of those pesky flies either when they show up in my tanks. They just eventually disappear on their own. You could wipe the underside of the hood often to eliminate the organic matter they feed on. Fish will usually eat them but if there are a lot of them and you tend to overfeed the fish (like I do sometimes) the fish won't be hungry enough to bother with them. Cut back on food for a few days and see what happens.

The betta's eye might be a condition known as "pop-eye". Here is a web page about it;

I hope he feels better soon...
