betta fish silver spot?

Question
I have been changing it about once a week, sometimes a week and a half. Is that the reason for the silver and his behavior? Does it just need a good clean? Also, should I continue to give him the drops?

Question -
I have a male betta fish named Jack, and so far he has been very healthy. Recently I have discovered a silvery spot that is directly below his mouth. It's a shiny silver, and then a tiny bit of bright blue and gold. I'm not sure if this is just part of his colors or not, because he does not have any other silver on his body. I have been giving him some drops for about a month now, but that was because his fin and tail were becoming a little clumped and weren't as flowy as they used to be. They have improved, not as much as they used to be, but he's seemed happier. However when I noticed the moderate sized silver patch I also noticed that he will jerk around a lot and then suddenly sink down to the bottom and lay on the rocks for about a minute. Then he will jerk around some more, then sink. What should I do? Is he healthy?

Hi Kelly,
Have you been regularly changing his water, i.e., at least once a week?

Answer
Hi Kelly,
Once a week should be fine.  You also want to be careful NOT to ever give a fish tank too good of a cleaning.  If you REALLY clean it, you actually kill off all the good bacteria that help stabilize the water.  It is best to give it a moderate clean but don't try to sterilize it.

I'm not quite sure what kind of drops you are giving him.  What are they?
