oscar fish behavior

Question
Hello!  I am an experienced fish keeper.  I have recently purchased a juvenile tiger oscar, approx. 4 inches long.  He was extremely outgoing in the aquatics store.  I have had him for 24 hours now and he is constantly hiding behind a plant on the right hand side of my tank.  He appeared to be eating before and healthy.  Is it normal for the intelligent oscar to be shy and wary at first, or do I have a shy oscar (which I have rarely seen)?  The water parameters are good and there is plenty of shelter in the tank, i.e. plants, rocks, etc.
Thanks for any help you can give me
gloria

Answer
Hi Gloria,
This is perfectly normal for oscars.  Partly because they are so intelligent, they don't respond very well to moving and it might take him days or even weeks to get used to his new home.
Be patient with him.
