-----Question-----
Hello my name is Ryan and I have ahd a wild caught green severum for about 2 years I beleive it to be a femail because it has absolutely no markings on its head what so ever...but I digrese I went to my local fish store and purchased a "turqoise" severum but it was just a colorful green severum I introduced the 2 fish over the course of about an hour having them seperated(I thought the new one was a mail because of all the head markings) and once I removed the seperater they kind of slowly circled eachother displaying to eachother not a sign of agrression towards the other at all...I thought to myslef YES! but suddenly the one that I've had for about 2 years took a turn for the worse it started byting the new member to my tank chasing it crashing it into rocks I seperated them and than tried again but by this time my residant severum had a taste for blood and decided this new fish was going to have to go one way or another I quickly seperated and placed the new severum in a smaller tank to await return to my fish store....basically I just am curious if this is how its going to be with all severums I try to introduce or was it just this one case.....I would love to establish a breeding pair of these wonderful fish...is there any way i can(by the by my set up is a 55 gallon tank with 1 green severum 4 regular silver dollars a pleco and 3 corry cats...i dunno if that helps with this at all)if you can help GREAT! if not I understand

Hi Ryan,
Introducing a new fish into a tank with an established cichlid is always going to be a challenge and not something that is going to happen in a few hours.  You need a way to let the new one recover, then put it in the tank with some sort of divider and let the two share the tank for a week or so before you let them get anywhere near each other.

Answer
HI Ryan,
It's hard to say exactly.  If they seem to be interested in each other, but not battling with the barrier between them, then consider putting them together.  But, do it in the morning when you can watch them for the whole day to see if things go badly.
If things are going badly, you will need to separate them again.
