Orange marks

Question
Hiya I have had my fish a few months now I have a black mollie and a white fish with an orange mark on his head (sorry i dont know the type of fish he is). The are just coldwater fish and do not have any kind of filter. I use tap safe in their water everytime i change them.
The problem I have is with my white and orange fish. When i got him he just had the one orange patch on his head. I have noticed he has started getting patches of the same colour orange on his body and fins. Is his normal? He is eating and swimming around just fine, I was just wondering if you could shed any light on this.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Nicola;

I know goldfish will change colors over time and they are coldwater fish. They can change color for much of their lives. If he starts to act sick it may be a developing bacterial infection. You didn't mention what size tank they are in but goldfish really should have a filter if that turns out to be what you have. They are very messy guys as they grow. If you ever see your fish at the top as if they are eating food but there isn't any food, they are lacking oxygen and need filtration or need at least air bubbles and more water changes.
