Question
I did recieve your message(s) about answering my question once before. However, I never got an answer. (either time)So, If its not too much trouble please try once more. I really don't know where to go form here .The help I have got from my pet store really make one wonder if they really know what to do. She is getting worse. Today she looks like her scales are starting to stick out (again) and the lethargy seems worse. I have 2 orandas (2-3 years old) in a 29 gal.tank.Tank perimeters: ammo 0, nitrite 0, Ph 7.4, O2 7mg/ltr at 70 degrees F). Not long ago one of my girls presented with dropsy like swelling behind the gills. I moved her to a hospital tank and treated her with NitrofuraG for 5 days. The swelling subsided and she seemed ok for about a month. Then she started to act "lethargic" I was advised to dip her for parasites, which I did 2 days ago. Now she is 'hanging ' under the surface in the back corner of the tank, also I noticed today a small brown spot on one of her gill covers, a brown mark on her wen (size of pencil eraser)and under her mouth the is a strange dot (pen tip size)with a tail/line?

Answer
Hi Lynne;

You might want to make a 25% water change for 3 days in a row and see if that perks her up until we can figure out what's going on. Do another one tomorrow too. I didn't see a test result listed for nitrate. If it is above 40ppm she could be weak from that. It builds up naturally over time (Not nitrite, but NitrAte) Weekly 25% water changes will keep it in check once you get it corrected. High nitrate will cause chronic illness and general ill health, as well as lack of energy, lack of appetite and inability to breed.

I received 2 questions but only answered the first one since the second was simply additional info. Sorry about that. You may have seen only the one with no actual answer so far. The system can be slow sometimes. I opt to receive an emailed copy of all my answers so here is your question with my answer following;

Subject: Problem with my oranda
Question -
I aquired 2 female 2-3 year old orandas about six months ago. The tank has been set up for years.  The Ph is 7.4, O2 7mg/ltr at 70 degrees F, Ammo. 0, Nitrite 0. A few months ago one of my girls presented with slightly protruding scales behind the gills. The petstore told me to treat her
w/NitrofuraG for 5 days. I did this in a hospital tank. The swelling subsuded and she seemed fine.A week ago she was
laying at the bottom (even after a fast and feeding peas) lethargic like. I was advised to dip her for parasites.  Now she is Hanging just under the surface,lethargic. Also
she has some brown spots that just developed in the past week one on her wen (about the size of a pencil eraser), one on her gill cover, and a strange very small (size of a pinhead) dot with a small line/tail? under her mouth. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am at a loss.

Hi Lynne;

Could it be argulus aka 'fish lice'? The dot thing with a tail could be anchor worm too. Here are some sites with
