Bubbles on the top of our tank

Question
My husband set up our fish tank 2 days ago.  yesterday he bought 12 fish.  He got 2 Cherry Barbs, 1 Chinese Algae eater, 1 Rainbow shark, 2 small black-ski tetras, 3 Goby-Bumble Bees, 3 male guppies.  Ever since he put them in the ph has been 7.6 and the water is cloudy.  We found this morning someone else had asked about the cloudy water and I think it was you that suggested to clean 25% of the water daily for about 8 weeks.  Anyway, we will do that, but our tank also has bubbles at the top.  It builds up so much and we aren't sure why.  Will that clear up once the water is not cloudy anymore and the PH stablizes?  He did add PH Down chemicals to the water yesterday and the PH is still reading 7.6.  Any suggestions for us?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Heather;

The bubbles indicate high ammonia levels from fish waste. The water changes will help, but you really need to reduce the fish load or you are going to lose them. There are too many fish in there to get it started safely. You should start a new tank with only one or two small fish for every ten gallons. Here is my article on new tanks that explains all that crazy stuff;
