Betta pop-eye

Question
Hi Jeeva,
I'm very concerned about my 3 month old male betta. Exactly a week ago was the last time he ate. Before, I was feeding him about 4-6 pellets a day and picking out the ones he didn't eat. 3 days ago when I got up I noticed he developed pop-eye. He also seems to have white spots on the underside of his head. He doesn't have energy and is just staying very still at the top of the tank in the corner. Our tank is not that big-maybe 3/4 gallon and I clean it about 1x/wk and add 12 drops of a conditioner. Last night I read that Epsom Salt can help pop-eye, so I added 1/5 tspn of it to the tank and changed his water. Problem is that he doesn't look any better today. Why isn't the Epsom Salt helping? How long is it supposed to take? What else can I do? I've been really worried about the little guy. Thanks for your help.

Answer
hi irina
when you adding a conditner, you shouldn't add 12 drops. you should only add about 2 drops. less chmical is better for fish, you fish is acting strange, because the water has two much condiner in it. And you only change water every week removing about 20-30% only. If you remove eintire water, you maybe removing all good bacteria that help fish. In that case what you should do is remove about 20-30 of the water and treat it with one drop of condiner and see how the fish is doing for couple of days. If the problem get wrost let me know. Also i would suggest that, you should get bigger tank for your betta, about 5-10 gallon would be fine, so they have more space to swim.

hope i helped
