Question
Brittany, i have a gold fish that is in a regular freshwater tank all by himself. He is at least 7 years old and has lived with many different gold fish who have died. I'm telling you this fish has so many lives. He has been through getting part of his tail ripped off by a cray fish (don't ask), getting stuck to the filter, and being poisoned by soap. And still he lives! Is this normal?

Answer
Hello Kristen,
You'd be surprised what some fish can live through. Goldfish are actually very long lived fish, usually surpassing twelve years in captivity (to those who keep them in a large enough tank) and the oldest living recorded goldfish was 80! Just keep at it, he may become a family heirloom. ;)
