Question
Hi I have a tropical tank, which is about 50 gallons, and has about 13 fish, mainly livebearers in.  However, i recently put in 2 dwarf frogs, two shrimps and a couple of extra fish.  The fish keep dying as, currently one of the livebearers is swimming upside down, why is that?  and one of the frogs died as well as one of the shrimp, do you know what could be wrong with them? Thank you

Answer
Hi Damian,
Check you water for ammonia, and nitrates.  This could be the cause.  Ammonia is the number one killer of fish.  Fish need clean water, so water changes must be made without fail every week with a good water conditioner such as Stress Coat or Aqua Plus.  After you have checked your water, make water changes to remove any ammonia, or nitrates that is in it.  Once the ammonia and nitrates removed, your fish will be fine.  You can buy these small test kits at your Pet Store, and they should be number one in your fish cabinet.  Do not buy products that say it can remove nitrates or ammonia, as only water changes can do this.  You should check your water every week to make sure it is okay.  Water changes are so important to fish, and it keeps them healthy.
Hope this helps
