Question
yes i have seen stripes fanning the eggs, ph lvl is about 7.0, but gh and ch are low extremly low i have to get this fixed it might be the cause of my problem, they are still grey but not many white i will have to check on them in the morning, also was thinking about the lighting i dont have a tank light so im not sure if they will survive,i hope they do but im not holding my breath, dont no what else to say because as soon as they see me they watch me and do nothing else sorry, they must be shy, anyway i am going to try to see if i can get some buffers tomorrow to increase the ch and gh lvls. if it dont work out this time, maybe it will work the next so i can have babies, if not i might just rule it out and put it down to two females in my tank and the eggs will not be fertile, i proberly am that unlucky, but you have been wonderful and  appreciate all your help. thanks heaps shannon

Answer
Hi Shannon,
The lighting isn't important.  They have the light of day.  What is important is your water chemistry.  If only one fish is fanning the eggs, then the one who isn't fanning should be taken out, and put in another tank.  Sometimes couples do not get along after the spawn, and only one looks after the spawn. It could also be that they are very young, and miss the first spawns.  I wish I was there to see how they are reacting towards the eggs.  It's hard for me to know exactly what is happening.  You will see more in the next spawn.  They will spawn again, and again, you will see what is happening.  I have bred all kinds of fish, and Angels, and Discus fish are the hardest to breed in my book as it takes lots of observation to see how they react to the spawn.  Some are excellent parents, some aren't like I have mentioned to you before.  You have to watch them almost 24 hours to see what is happening in your tank.  You already found one reason why the spawn is fungus.  Fix your water chemistry, and then the next spawn watch them carefully.  I would also like to mention that they should have a 35-40 gallon tank.  I don't remember if I mentioned this to you before.  Also the glass or slate that they spawn on should be very very clean.
Keep me posted on what happens next time they spawn.  We will get to the bottom of this.
Good Luck!
