Siamese fighter

My blue Siamese fighter has not eaten today and has started to swim with an erratic movement - darting from top to bottom and trying to hide between the plastic flowers in the fish bowl.
It positions itself very near the surface with its head just about out of the water.Can you help with this strange behavior.
I placed the bowl in a sunny position to warm the water. I hope the bowl did not get too hot.

 Do not place his bowl in direct sunlight it will over heat. Also, do not put him in a bowl. Betta's need to be in a tank with no less than 2.5 gallons. I know that in pet stores they sell Betta bowls but they are too small to house an adult fish. If you are still having problems let me know.
