Fish is CRAZY

Question
I think my fish is a cichlid. It's in a 44 gallon corner tank. It's about 4-5 years old, but over the past week it's been acting crazy - literally!  It'll bob up and down halfway OUT of the water & totally vertical!?  It will hide under the coral/rock then all of the sudden swim wildly all over!  It's not eating very well.   Is this 'spring fever' for it?? or is something wrong?!!?  thank you ~

Answer
Sue,

Although it would be good to what kind of fish it is I am thinking it is having a swim bladder issue. The swim bladder is an organ that allows the fish to stay upright and swim regular. The two top reasons for this to happen is over feeding and bad water quality. Only feed what the fish can eat in 2 minutes time. To help him/her out, fast the fish for 2 days. On the third day cook him/her a pea. Once it has cooled down, remove the outer shell and feed the inside of the pea to your fish. Do not feed the fish the outer shell of the pea because it will not be able to digest it. After you feed the pea, fast the fish again for 2 days. This should help. If you need to you can repeat the process. Make sure you are doing weekly water changes of 25%. This will help keep the water clean and help prevent swim bladder disease. If after you feed the pea and the fish is not better or the fish gets worse let me know.
