Question
i have a Siamese fighting fish and i was just wondering which fish are compatible with it, I also have guppies and even though people say that the two don't mix my fighter no longer attacks them as he is too slow and has given up. i know you aren't suppose to keep them with fish that have long flowy tails. Any suggestions? I would prefer bigger fish not Mollies and platy.

Answer
Ruben, Remember that your betta is extremely territorial. You did not say how large your tank was. The tropical's like molly's and platy's need heated tanks and will definitely not survive the constant change in temperature or the fight if your tank is too small. In with my bobby I keep no middle swimmer's. It is too stressful for both of them but, my betta tank is only 3 gallon tall, lighted, bubble tank. I do however keep a Cory catfish in with him. They are very cute and get about 2 inches. Mine is silver with black spots...they also come in green and albino (the albino are not as strong). They are great to keep the bottom of your tank clean too. Other than Danio's, guppies, small catfish, and goldfish(never though). There are not alot of cold water fish in a tropical fish store. Also, remember the females though they don't have the long fins they are very beautiful in many colors live together quite nicely ( not with a male ) even with a Cory. I always recommend a bottom feeder with them and they stay out of their area generally. You can give your betta a frozen pea thawed under water and cracked for him once a week. This help's with the constipation they are prone to that may cause problem's later like swimbladder infection's or dropsy. He will love you for it just don't forget to take out the shell. If your tank is at least ten gallon's and heated it depending on his personality and how we set the tank up can get him with some different types of fish. Let me know. They are very solitary so he is not lonely. : ) Good Luck, Tina
