Question
Okay i undertsand the physical difference behind pigeons and doves..but thier behavior is very similar so i'm asking you this question, if you do not know the answer its okay atleast you tried...i've looked everywhere for an expert but they keep giving me excuses and i need an answer...i have two ringneck doves and 3 pigeons + many other birds...i adopted the doves from a humane society and they are "Bonded" female ringnecks..they got along fine for the most part while they were being "quaratine" but once i put them in a bigger cage 30x24x18 one of them started to pull out the others feathers! one is so sweet she wont fly when you go to pick her up and she knows how to stand up...the other one is super mean and flies from you and makes hissing noises and raises her wings when you try to pick her up...and as if that wasn't enough i introduced both of them to my 3 pigeons *fantails* and various birds(they live in a avairy)..she ALSO plucked out THIER feathers too..and she likes to harrass the finches by chasing them all day, my conure wont come out of his hiding spot because she also plucks out his feathers!!!!! what is her problem? i love her but dont want to deal with her excessive plucking of OTHER birds feathers...do you know what i can do? is it too late to hand tame her? is she a lost cause? i want to keep her but if she keeps this up she might be dinner soon!

Answer
Hi,

It sounds to me like she has a very dominant personality. It would be best for her and the other birds if you put her in her own separate cage. This would be better as she is stressing out the other birds and herself as well. It might not be too late to hand tame her. If she is by herself with no mate, it is quite possible she might become attached and bonded to you. It will just take time and go slowly:) Let me know if her attitude changes when she is by herself. Maybe you can re-introduce her at a later stage. Keep me updated!

Thanks,
Stacie
