Question
i hyave 2 pigeons, a brown badge and a tippler and im desperate ti find out the sexes, im a bit confused because when when they are flying in the air it's mostly my tppler following my badge and it som etimes pecks my badge on the back and head and sometimes i see them touching beacks, they both make cooing noises and sometimes they fight over a particular shelf thats in the shed, my sheds quiet small so i was hoping they would start laying eggs by now as they are trained to me and i have ept them both together for abput couple of weeks. ANY ADVICE YO CAN GIVE ME, THANKS!

Answer
Hi, Asad,

My years of experience with pigeons are with racing homing pigeons and some fancy pigeons.  I know very little about tipplers and I've never heard of a "badge."  If these birds are not the same species of pigeon, I really don't believe you should be breeding them to each other.  Is a "badge" a type of tippler?  With most pigeons, you can sex them fairly accurately by their behavior around other birds.  A pigeon that follows another and pecks another bird's back and head could possibly be a cock bird.  Males usually chase their females on the ground and fan their tail feathers dragging their tail feathers on the ground.  Females might behave the same, but females usually don't drag their tail feathers on the ground.  Fighting over a particular shelf could be 2 males fighting over that spot on the shelf or 2 females.  The fighting could also be the result of too small of a living area.  A couple of weeks together isn't that long and perhaps these 2 birds aren't compatible enough to mate.  There are no guarantees when we put 2 birds together.  In addition, mating obviously won't occur if these birds are the same sex and/or if they are different species/subspecies of pigeon.  I'd have to know more about what a "badge" pigeon is because that species of pigeon is new to me (and I've raised/been around many different species of pigeons).
