leg injury

Question
Hi, three weeks ago my zebra finch severely injured her leg. I am sure it was broken. She had been in her nest after laying 6 eggs in several days. She is alone in the cage. I didn't know what was wrong at first and actually thought she was dying. Her pain must have been severe. I thought she was sick after laying so many eggs. I have nursed her back to health by feeding her on the paper towels I lay on the bottom of the cage and also giving her water through an eyedropper. She is still lame, though, and cannot sit on her perch. I continue to give her water from a dropper. Is there anything I can do to rehabilitate her leg? Also, it is restricting to have to be around all of the time to give her adequate water. She will not take it from a shallow dish. Do you have any suggestions? I have thought of purchasing a small water bottle such as the kind hamsters use, but I don't know if she would know what it is. She is about 6 years old. I wonder if she caught her leg on the straw of the nest somehow. Thanks

Answer
Unfortunately she is too old and if her leg is broken, it probably will kill her. All you can do is keep giving her water because she won't drink out of anything else. I've had birds with injured legs before and they almost always die. There's little else you can do aside from keeping her comfy and well watered until she gets better or dies.
