QuestionMy orange breast finches had four young. At 1 week of age found three dead on floor 3 metres from nest. One young still alive in nest. What might have happened?
AnswerHi Joy,
sorry to hear this...sometimes finches will throw their young out of the nest to make more room. This is actually called baby toss. It's not uncommon, and there is a reason for this, but us as humans can't understand it. Sometimes the babies are perfectly healthy, other times they could be unwell. It makes no difference. Hopefully you're remaining chick will stay and grow up healthy. Good luck,Elizabeth
