Pin Feathers

Question
I have four budgies housed in a large cage.  They all get along pretty well with each other, except for Beaker is very mean with the others, he won't let them eat out of a certain food dish, he hogs the vegetables when I put some in, and gets mad when one uses his favorite toy.  I've had to resort to putting two food dishes, two water dishes, and multiple pieces of broccoli and lettuce.

Beaker just had a molt and is growing in his new feathers.  His head is covered in new pin feathers, but none of the others will groom his head.  I've watched him groom the other birds' heads and then offer his head and the bird refuses.  My question is should I leave him this way?  Will the pin feathers eventually go away?  He is not tame so there's no way I can help him.  Also how bad is it for his well-being to have the other birds ignore him, even though he was bullying them first?

Answer
Hi Celine,

You're budgie Beaker sounds exactly like my budgie Marco. The pin feathers should eventually go away, he will probably do stuff like rub his head on the bars of the cage or on the perches. Having the other birds ignore him may or may not affect him, budgies have different personalities some can handle a little solitude others not so much. If he seems to be doing well so far he should be fine. As long as he has adequate stimulation, which by the sounds of it he does,he may just be the big bully trying to be the leader just like my Marco hehe.

Good luck!
