Question
Hi Tara,

May I bother you with a couple of questions about my weiros please.

I have tame inside weiros. Male white face and a female pearl. If they were to mate what will they throw? I have tried to understand the genetics side at NCS but alas it confused me no end.

"Baby" the pearl comes from a pied split father and a normal grey mother. I have "Babys" parents but they are untame. Baby is 16 months old.

"Killer" white face - I don't know his lines. Killer is 20 months old.

When "Baby"  was born I was told because she was a pearl all pearls from the parents would be girls. This I don't understand either.

Baby and Killer live inside with Shimmy, Chief and Cracker. They are only caged at night. During the day they are out of the cage and are all part of the family. If I was to consider breeding them would it be best to place them outside in their own avairy? All the weiros go outside in a day avairy about four times a week. So the avairy is familiar to both Baby and Killer. Would breeding affect their tameness?

When you have a moment I'd greatly appreciate your assistance.

Cheers

Answer
Hello Renee and thank you for yuor questions.

I have not bred cockatiels before but have considered it so I wont be able to help with gentics but with the other I can help. Tame birds should not be bred because yours are used to being let out to play and can be handled, when you attempt to breed such birds they will not make good perants as they will be used to being let out & handled by you, tame/hand fed birds never make good perants period, as they are too attched to there owners.
