Question
Hi. I have a nest on top of my air conditioner in my window. The parents nest there every year. This time, the babies hatched last Sunday, they have little pin feathers, but one is out of the nest and sitting on top of the AC next to the nest shivering. The mother won't look at it, as she is sitting on top of the sibling. The baby out of the nest appears to be the larger of the two, but it can not survive on it's own yet, and I can't get to it. The mother is always there and I don't want to be attacked trying to get the other baby. Is there a reason this baby is out of the nest on it's own right now?

Answer
It sounds to me that the mother has basically "abandoned" her baby.  It mmay have a defect or it may be sick and the mother won't care for it because of that.  If you could get to the baby at a time when the mother is not sitting on the sibbling, there is still a chance that the baby will not make it anyhow, but if yo'd like to try to raise it, they do make neat pets s they sing some very pretty songs.
I hope this helped.

God bless
