Question
Hi,
I have a pigeon that I rescued about 3-4 years ago.  He got caught in my screen door last night and when he backed out, he was disoriented shaking his head back and forth (looked involuntary) and off-balance.  After a night of rest in a pet carrier with a heating pad and blankets I thought he was dead....he wasn't moving.  But upon further examination he was breathing.  He did move when I attempted to pick him up but then just went back to "sleeping"  There were no signs of any trauma...no blood broken bones etc. Have any ideas?

Answer
Hello Lindsay and thank you for your post.
Your bird should've been seen by a Certified Avian Vet right away r first thing in the morning.  It does sound like there is a trauma of some sort, and I am not qualified to make any kind of diagnosis.
Do, however, keep in mind that a bird's bones are hollow (this is what makes them light enough to fly) and just because you can not see a broken bone, doesn't mean that there isn't one.  Only an X-Ray can tell if there is or isn't.  Please take your pigeon to a Certified Avian Vet ASAP.  Hopefully it isn't too late.

Good luck and God Bless.
