Question
I have a love bird with no male, she lays eggs all the time but now she has an egg that has been poking out of her for about 3 hours I'm afraid it is stick, is there anything I can do to help her get it out? And is it gonna kill her if she can't?

Answer
Take her to a certified avian vet ASAP!!!!!! First of all, egg laying in a single female can be a sign of underlying problems in and of itself, but also, if a bird is having ANY trouble laying an egg, you need to seek medical help fast. Egg binding can quickly kill birds. Once she lays the egg safely, make sure you find allow her to nest them, otherwise she will continue to lay more and further jeopardize her health. Make sure she always has a cuttlebone or other form of calcium, especially during breeding season. To prevent this from happening again (breeding birds shortens their life expectancy and is very stressful on them), increase the amount of sleep she gets, at least 14 hours during breeding season, make sure there is nothing that could be construed as a nest in the cage, feed her proper nutrition. Proper nutrition means seeds ONLY AS A TREAT! A birds main source of food should be pellets and healthy veggies and fruit once a day. If you have problems switching your bird to pellets. Take away all mirrors, which could stimulate her hormones during breeding season, but still always make sure your bird has plenty of fun toys to entertain her which are changed weekly so she does not become bored. Even if the egg is layed, I would recommend consulting a good avian vet in your area, because, like I said, this could be a sign of an underlying condition causing her hormones to spike.
