Question
Dear Chrys
I have two peachfaced lovebirds  and i noticed that they are very promiscous and i was wondering is this means we will have babies and what should i do as far as a nest and where would i buy something like this and what should i do  Can you tell i am not breeder

Answer
Hi, Vadim.  Thanks for posting.

If your lovebirds are mating, yes, it's most likely eggs will be laid, probably in the bottom of the cage if there is no nestbox available.  If you have no idea what you are doing, as far as allowing your birds to breed, then you SHOULD NOT put up a nestbox!  There's so very much you need to know in advance (like what to do when something goes wrong), things you need to decide (like whether you will handfeed the babies, what you will do with the babies once they hatch, etc.).  I recommend you learn these things first/make some decisions, then allow your lovebirds to lay eggs and hatch babies.

You can buy nestboxes at most pet shops that sell bird supplies and/or via the internet.  For lovebirds, you'd need to purchase a cockatiel-sized nestbox.

Visit my website for more information about parrots in general (including breeding, handfeeding babies, etc.) if you wish:  http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/birdinfo/index.html

Thanks.
