Whats Going on? Cant Find an Answer!

Question
(I'm not sure if you're the one I asked earlier.)

We have a 2 year old male parakeet, who has always been very, very talkative, active and quite particular about what he likes and dislikes. Yesterday I noticed that he was rubbing his face seriously on either his wooden perch outside the cage or his mirror perch in the cage. He is still eating some but not drinking. He always asks to take a bath and he drinks then; Today he only sat on the side of the bath dish. He only seems to want to sit, either on top or inside or on my shoulder. Today he's started to rub on me, either my hand or neck and he's quite serious and nips hard too. He looks completely normal in every way and still flies. But it's like he's depressed or ticked-off. It's not normal. He's usually very bubbly, flying, eating, talking, wanting a bath and now this - sitting, rubbing, nipping, looking bored, and only eating some. His poop is still black and white and the black is normal but the white is a smidge runny-er. I think that is all. Can you help, please? Thanks so much! -Dian

Answer
Hi, Dian.  Thanks for posting.

I always tell people, you know your bird(s) better than anyone else.  If you think your bird is ill, it most likely is and you should seek avian veterinarian attention for your bird(s).  However, be aware that birds have their good days and they have their bad days just like humans do.  It isn't unusual for a bird to feel under the weather for a couple/few days where they just don't act right, especially when you state his droppings are a bit runny-er!.  They might get a bug of some type and it takes a few days for their immune system to fight off the bug.  However, if their behavior tends to get worse and not better after a few days/maybe a week, depending on what's going on, then a visit to the birdie vet is probably in order.

Watch your bird closely and if his behavior goes downhill, call a bird vet and get him in.
