skin problem

Hi Toni our mini yearling mare has flaky scaling skin and not much hair growth clipped her back in April and some hair is growing back in spots like pig hair. Been bathing her with medicated shampoo and put her on wheat germ oil.

Hi Pat-
Thanks for your question. Your best bet would be to consult a vet. It sounds as if it could be an allergy, lice or some kind of fungus. I have, however, had very good luck on both my minis and "big" horses with a product called MTG (Mane-Tail-Groom)by Shapley that promotes hair growth and seems to "cure" what ails them with a lot of different issues. It is widely availble without a prescription. Hope this helps. Best, Toni
