Question
I have a six year old Breeding Stock Paint mare that I have raised from a baby(three months ) she knows all her ground training. And has been rode a few times. The thing is I can't ride her unless I have someone watching and my family doesn't have the time to be out there.I don't want to get hurt but I want my horse trained.WHat should I do? Oh I have a round pen

Answer
The only way to train a horse for riding, is to ride it, really.

However, because you are unable to ride all the time, the next best thing is ground work of all kinds... lunging your horse with the saddle on will get her used to wearing the saddle, and moving at the different gaits with it on. If you ride english, keep the irons down while lunging so the horse gets used to things banging on her sides.

So lots of grooming and leading and bonding with the mare too... the more bonded you are the easier things will be when you get on her back.

Again, nothing is going to break her except for riding her, however every step you take on the ground will prepare her to accept a rider easier.

Hope this helps some...
