Question
hi andy, my name is heaven, i just bought a 7 year old gelding and he hasnt been ridden in a few years, but when i get on him he knows a lot, but the problem is actually getting on him, he doesnt have a problem with us standing by his side but as soon as out foot leaves the ground to put it in his stirrups then he starts moving over really fast, and even if i put a halter over his headstall and have a leadrope on it for someone to hold him for me then he'll still do it cept he moves really fast in circles around the person holding him. i was wondering if you had any advice for me to get him to stop doing that and just stand still so i can get on him and actually ride him! thank you for your time =]

Answer
Hi Heaven,
It sounds as though your horse may have some back or neck pain. I would rule that out first by having a complete Vet examination down. If the Vet does not find any issues, then check your saddle and make sure that it is fitting the horse correctly as that can also cause pain and he would try to move away when being mounted as the weight of a person or even the saddle shifting a bit, could be causing the saddle to pinch him.
