Question
I have a 12 yr old TW and every time he gets around other horses no matter the gender he acts up. He snorts and carries on like a stud. I think he was cut late but my question is how can i get him over it. I like to trail ride with him and not worry about what he may do when he see's other horses that he hasn't been around. If you have any ideas please help. thanks!

Hello Cody,
I would make sure your horse gets time out in a herd to work things out himself, does he have turnout with other horses now? If he is acting like a stud or like he is going to bite or kick other horses it is your job to put him to work when he starts acting that way. This can be tricky to do on the trail so you may want to find an arena and other horsemen to work with you on this issue. Horses usually act up because they are defensive, you could have a few horses on one side of the arena and walk him into them- if he acts up ask him to GO! Work around the other side of the arena and when you feel he is a little tired let him drift back towards the horses. If he stays quiet he gets to hang out and catch his breath, if he decides to start another noisy conversation you say "Hey! That Reminds Me of GO!" Keep up that pattern and when he is ready he will even ignore other horses who try to get him talking to them, it is almost like he will say "Sorry, I can't talk to you- when I start side conversation my friend Cody gets all these BIG ideas."
Good luck with this and let me know how it goes,
