pony climbing panel fence

Question
I recently bought a 5yo shetland gelding. I have 2 qh mares that I am going to move to a larger pasture within a week. The pony is being kept in a large turnout stall with Priefert panals. The mares are about 6 feet from him at times, but at times they go out into the pasture. When they go out, he goes berserk trotting around and trying to climb and jump the panels. The pony is going to be kept here while the mares are moved, do you think that he will settle down after they are gone? There will always be times that I will take the mares on trail rides and camping trips and leave the pony alone, is there some way that I will be able to get him over his need to be with other horses? I have always been able to leave one of my other horses with no problem...a nicker then about their business....I would appreciate any help you can offer....thank you, Brenda

Answer
Hi,
The Shetland will more than likely learn that they are coming back. If you have time you should take the mares away from him for 15-20 minutes and then bring them back. As he calms down gradually take them away longer. Eventually he will get used to them coming and going.
Thanks,
Ashley
