Question
QUESTION: hello ma'am, what type of sand is used for training horses, especially trotting exercise. if you dont know this, can you please find out??

ANSWER: I do not know the types of sand and footing available in India. We have so many different footings avalilable in the United States.

It is not always sand that is used, but if it is sand there are differnt grades of sand. Also people use a mixture, stone dust(which I do not like), tanbark, etc.

The depth is important. You want it deep enough to give support, but too deep can hurt horses, causing injury to their tendons and ligaments.

Perhaps visiting local riding establishments and asking the owners what they are using
would give you more valid information.

QUESTION: ma'am, what is the ideal depth of a dry training surface like sand?
i dont think so 1 foot sand is good for horses. am i right?

Answer
Many times a base is used, and then sand is placed on top of it.

It does matter to a great extent what horses will be doing on the surface, i.e. racing, dressage, jumping, etc.

You would like support, but yes, definitely a foot of sand would cause all sorts of tendon problems. You are looking for INCHES of sand for support.
