horse behaviour returning from ride

i have an 8 yr old tb geld.  he is good to handle.  he is great to ride out, does what is asked and is calm, however once we reach our destination after a couple of minutes he starts prancing, jogging, jumping back & forth on the spot and wont calm down.  i have to spin him in circles.  he hasnt done anything "bad" yet.  then for a majority of way home he is still the same but eventually calms down.  on the road in traffic its very dangerous as he ends up in middle of road.  he can also be difficult to catch but not all the time.  please any advice would be great

Another thing to try is when you have time go half way on your trail and turn back, then before you get home turn back and head out again, get further than the first turn back and turn back again! Repeat this until he has no idea where the trail starts or ends and just follows your lead.
