Question
I recently received an 8 year old mare. The owner was trying to wean her from her two year old baby. We have had her less then two weeks and she is still upsset about the seperation from her baby.
We want to know should we continue halter training her or should we give her some time to get use to her new enviorment. We want to do what's best for her and we want to train her right.

Thanks for the help!

Answer
Hi Missy,
Since her baby was older, the mare most likely will take a few months to get over the seperation. You do not say if the mare is still producing milk, but if she is then cut out all grain. This will help dry her up and will aid in getting over the baby. Continue with her training. The training will allow her to focus on something else then the foal.
